| Our enterprise was established in 1615, and originally we served
as the official mirror craftsmen to the Tokugawa Shogunate. It was in 1872 that
we began operation as the first store in Japan to specialize in eye glasses, and
to this day we continue to service the Imperial Household. The production of eye glasses began in earnest in the Meiji Period, and the Japanese sense of beauty together with skilled craftsmanship combined to create beautiful, delicately fashioned custom made eye glasses. In this day and age not many stores accept orders for custom made glasses, but here at Murata, in addition to our superb line up of factory made glasses, we still employ our own skilled workmen who will hand fashion exquisitely timeless eye glasses to the customer’s exact specifications, just as we did long ago. |
